Can you keep a secret?
Both Boulder and Escalante have excellent trout fishing very nearby.
There are mountain lakes, streams and beaver ponds filled with healthy trout, waiting to have their picture taken with you! And adding a mountain fishing experience is an easy and great addition to your adventure here in southern Utah.
Most fishing takes place on the Aquarius Plateau/Boulder Mountain, thousands of feet above the red and white sandstone deserts below. The mountain’s thick forest of spruce, aspen and ponderosa pines hide the small ponds and creeks that fishermen seek. Nearly all of the “water” on the mountain holds any or all of the classic trout species, including cutthroat, brook, brown and rainbow. It would not be a fishing tale to say that there are some pretty big trout up there, but that’s about as much of the “secret” as we can let out for now.
Fishing permits can be purchased at most local gas stations, convenience and grocery stores. Information on fishing suggestions, maps and current conditions can be obtained at the Escalante Interagency Office on Main Street in Escalante.
