On the surface, Escalante Utah has an unprepossessing downtown unless you see their annual Pioneer Day Parade. Yes, Escalante is devoted to the outdoor activities, hiking, biking, kayaking, fishing, 4-wheeling, and also agriculture. Locals come out celebrate the pioneers who came and settled in this Potato Valley.
Visitors can eat local at Escalante's Farmer's Market every Saturday 9am-12pm on Main and 100 East streets during the summer months. Espressos can be had in many of Escalante's restaurants and several have great kid's menus, too.
Part of Escalante's appeal is how you arrive in town via beautiful scenic Highway 12 http://www.escalanteut.com/attractions/scenic-byway-12-one-of-americas-best/ and you'll leave with some of Escalante's best small town culture.
